It’s called a smash cut. It’s a film technique where one scene abruptly cuts to another scene without warning. It’s used to startle the audience, usually for comedic or dramatic effect. More on that on the commentary track.
You may also recognize the punchline from an episode of Futurama. It’s one of my favorite lines from that show and I just couldn’t help myself… (actually now that I write this, I am realizing that it comes from an episode with robots on a deserted island… Woah… I’m freaking out right now.)
EDIT: I sound so sick on todays commentary track. I apologize guys. Bleugh!

Y’know, whether you are sipping drinks at a tiki bar on a beach or being devoured by quicksand, life’s a struggle. Good one, Matt.
Love the expressions on this one.
The strip is really looking good! Colors are dead on and the artwork is fab. Nice font btw…is it yours?
PS: If it’s not yours, don’t spoil the secret here. (email me. hahaha).
Must be pretty hard to grab with pincers… Well, bye Carl!
I love Larry in that first panel, excellent.
Ah irony, the most sophisticated corner of the world of jokes. Nice job using it. Stay cool.
Russ – Thank you sir! It’s all about perspective isn’t it?
Mike – Thanks! I have trouble with expressions with these characters sometimes.
Wit – It’s a font I bought, but thanks for noticing. Actually Dave Kellet’s work has got me wanting to mess with font Size a bit more. Traditionally I have had everything at 11pt. Now I wanna try playing with the size a bit more. I think it gives it a bit more life.
Coyote Trax – Yeah that drawing of Larry is probably the best I’ve done. He vexes me sometimes.
Thomas – Thanks for the compliment! BTW, Has everyone visited Thomas’s site? He has some really awesome work. My favorite strip is this one: http://ogden5.com/fetch/018-the-scarecrow/
does anyone care for larry’S problems at all:D…last time the narrator bashes him and now this one…
larry somehow becomes my favorite …still i hope carl and the bot will make it of course, at least they’re not alone tho
I love the expression of suspicion on the second strip!
Thomas’ site is great! My favorite strip is the microwave time machine one from the early ‘Fetch the Bee’ stories!
is he going to make it? I don’t know – agghh the suspense
Seems like everyone’s got problems!
I think you executed the use of font size perfectly.
