I spent a long time trying to come up with a good punchline for Carl. Turns out that if you don’t have anything good to say, then you shouldn’t say anything at all! I dived into more detail in today’s audio commentary.

Cerci (singular cercus) are paired appendages on the rear-most segments of many arthropods, including insects and arachnids but not crustaceans. Cerci often serve as sensory organs, but they may also be used as weapons or copulation aids, or they may simply be vestigial structures.

This was the perfect last panel. Sometimes there is nothing that can be said … you just have to look for some shred of evidence of synapses firing. Sometimes you find it, sometimes you don’t.
